Tout Naturel!! (all Natural)

So I have embarked on my second attempt to grow my hair au naturel, reason being that after much research I think that this will be the best way to get my hair to grow thicker and stronger. My first attempt at going au naturel began after watching the third season of "america's next top model" and seeing this gorgeous girl YAYA, watching the thickness of her natural hair underneath those braids convinced me that my hair too can do that. But after a year and a bucket full of tears from the many times I attempted to comb my hair, I went to my nearest pharmacy store and committed the ultimate no-no by RELAXING my OWN HAIR. So you might be wondering what makes me think that this time might be the last time? well I don't know how long I'll last on this journey of naturalness, I just know that my hair is asking me to let nature take her course..lol. Anyways please I need some tips from all my natural sisters out there!!! help me please!!!!

Natural Hair grows faster than relaxed hair because there are less instances of breakage due to the absence of chemicals. Here are some important tips from Professionals regarding Hair Maintenance:

1. Shampoo regularly: This stops hair from being dry and brittle. Don't forget to shampoo and condition with proper products.

2. Always massage scalp because it encourages growth.

3. Always condition. THIS IS CRUCIAL because it repairs all damage done while shampooing, and it coats hair with moisture. Products that contain Aloe and Rosemary work well because they stimulate growth.

4. Don't forget to DEEP CONDITION and use PROTEIN treatments.

5. Natural hair is very delicate and needs lost of Moisture.

6. Protect hair when u sleep, always wrap with a silk scarf because it promotes luster that decreases split ends.

7.Trim ends regularly

8. See a stylist regularly, just you see a doctor and dentist, it is important to see a stylist to learn more about the health of your hair!

Here are some products that help in maintaining hair "Au Naturel"

For $12.50 This rosemary Mint Shampoo by Carol's daughter leaves your hair feeling tingly, which apparently stimulates growth. For more information on their products check out http://www.carolsdaughter.com/

Not exactly sure what indian hemp is ( I think it's a plant) but what i know is that I love this product, I have been using it for years! and it is wonderful. Not only does it smell great! and does it condition, this is perfect for natural hair because it helps hold the hair together, especially if you're tying your hair in a Bun! It is great for shine too!!

As you can see I am a big fan of MINT and tingling products! If you are also Dr. Miracle is amazing. So far all of his (or her) products are tingling and have this minty feel to it that makes your scalp feel rejuvenated!!. I have both the 2-in 1 shampoo and conditioner, as well as the temple and Nape balm. The temple and Nape grow balm is good for massaging the scalp to revitalize the growth of hair in the areas that are lacking. I have used both these products and I love them, they are fantastic!!

Anyways for more information on these products, check out their respective websites: http://www.carolsdaughter.com/, http://www.drmiracles.com/ (all pictures courtesies of the websites).

Hopefully, if I am Lucky my hair will come out rich and full like Yaya's! Wish me LUCK!! lol.

Ok, I just went thru all your posts. Something is definitely wrong with me.

I dunno wat 2 do 2 my hair anymore. I like braids, but they pull my hair out, so I'm staying off braids 4 a while. I'll like 2 go natural, but it costs too much and takes too much time and committment.

Boy, wish I had a magic wand. lol. Thanx 4 stopping by my blog.

Hiya,
finally a hair blog!
I haven't had a relaxer touch up since october last year and did the big chop (cut off all the relaxed bits) last week so I am definately au naturel now, lol.
I did it cos I wasn't happy with the condition of my hair it was breaking really badly and I decided to start from scratch. I'm wearing wigs now and washing every other day. I still haven't decided how I'll style it but for now I'm just happy my hair is healthy again

OMG A hair blog!!! Im LOVING your blog already. I was paying alot of attention to my hair last year, using dr. miracle and what not. Right now, I did million braids and ofcourse, it 'chopped' my front hair. Any suggestions?

Oh my Goodness, Thanks for the comments, please keep them coming, LOL. anyways I knew that all women esp. black women were bonded by their HAIR DRAMA!! my goodness I have enough to write a book.

@Soupasexy, lol I know wat u mean, rocking a weave is not bad, it's very easy to maintain, just don't forget to take care of ur natural hair underneath, make sure the braids are not TIGHT!! someone should have told me dat a long time ago...I used to think "no pain, no gain" lol..

@vERA, gurl something is wrong with me too. I think this summer I will chop the whole thing off and then prob. blog about Baldness...lol this hair thing don tire me!

@Abimars, I am where u;re at, I am just takin it easy with my natural hair, as of the moment it is in braids, (not tight of course) it seems to be helping

@NigeriandramaQueen: am rockin braids right now and I have some problem with my front hair as well, wat I do is I don't braid it, I just oil it, massage it and have my braids parted in the middle to cover that area.

PLEASE PLEASE no TIGHT braids!!! esp if you're front is senstivite or if u have sensitive hair period! it is a recipe for hair loss, also don't forget to get ur hair redone as much as possible to prevent the braids from being pulled out, because of the weight of the old braids.

Thanks again for the comments and keep enjoying my blog :)

I am a natural and I believe my hair is going to grow up into something even better looking than Yaya's...LOL. So after you relaxed your tresses did you embark on another natural journey or did you just give up there? I wish you all the best in expanding your hair~izons.

STAY AWAY FROM RELAXERS!

NAPPY IS THE WAY TO GO UNTIL YOU HAVE REASON TO THINK OTHERWISE. I ADVISE YOU NOT TO USE 'GREASE'... TRY TEA TREE MOISTURIZERS AND NEVER EVER USE 911 LEAVE-INS. NEVER USE A HAIR-DRYER, ALWAYS ALLOW NATURAL DRYING TO TAKE PLACE.

WET YOUR HAIR, TWIST IT, TIE IT WITH A SILK SCARF BEFORE GOING TO BED, CONDITION IT, STYLE IT, LOVE IT, NURTURE IT. IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!

I've been trying a bunch of hair products since returning to natural hair and so far I've really loved Miss Jessie's Buttercreme. I got the 16 oz. and it cost me about $32 in the states. See, that kinda lifestyle is kinda hard to maintain since i'm the stereotypical broke student so I check out Elasta Q.P's mango butter & that stuff smells really good. I still like Miss Jessie's though...it has a fragrant minty goodness that felt a little tingly when used on make 2-strand twists.
Oh & do you know any other natural hair blogs, I've been perusing the net for a while now & have come across only a few.
